Kids love souvenirs. Don’t be afraid to keep it simple and cheap. A key chain makes a fun, inexpensive way for your kid to remember where they’ve been. Collect one from every destination and start a collection! You’ll be surprised how fun your kid will find this, and how creative they’ll become in gathering their collection. It also creates a vacation road map when retelling their adventures to others.
Collect a postcard from every stop on your vacation and let your children tape them to their bedroom doors. They will love this and remember your family vacations for years to come.
Also with all the smart phones, we no longer send postcards through the mail, but with free* apps such as Postcard and Postagram, you can take a photo with your smartphone and with a click of a button, a hard copy postcard with your photo can be sent anywhere in the world. (*the app is free but to send a postcard cost a small fee + postage, approximately $.80). Magnets are also fun, cheap and easy to collect!
Snow globes are also fun to collect, but be warned if you’re traveling by plane, they cannot be packed in your carry-on bag. Be sure to be extra careful packing it in your luggage or you’ll arrive home with wet, glittery clothes. That’s why I suggest key chains!
